In fact, my cantenna model is shorter than the original Cantenna, but this doesn't mean it is less effective. The diameter is the most important thing here to catch most of the signal around.

Performance you could expect greatly depends of the environment. Wifi signal at 2.4ghz is greatly affected by physical objects.  You will get the most of the signal if you are in clear line of view.  If you need to go through trees/walls or other objects you will lose a lot of signal strength and the distance you can reach can drop to few hundreds of feets.

Important Information about USB Cable Length:
USB protocol don't allow cable longer than 16ft. There repeaters of 100ft long but we never tested it so we can't guarantee it works fine.
